Congratulations to our Under 16 Captain, Jess Vaughan and her squad for their fantastic performances today in the South Yorks Regional Qualifiers. Jess, who has been playing regularly for the 1st Senior team in the Northern League this season, today led the Under 16 team to resounding victories over Stormers, Dronfield and Barnsley Netball Clubs to come a clear first in the competition.

The team now goes forward to represent South Yorkshire in the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional League after Christmas. Well done to the whole squad, including those who didn't manage to get on the team sheet today but who continue to work hard at training. Great leadership Jess too

Regional Senior League Champions

7/4/2017

Sheffield Concord finish top of the table in the Yorkshire and Humberside Regional Senior League ending their season with a mighty win against Leeds Athletic.

The Sheffield outfit were on form for their final match of the season at the English Institute of Sport on Sunday 2nd April. With a convincing 70-42 win against the Leeds side they end their season as league champions.

The match began with unforced errors from both sides in the early minutes but Concord was first to settle. Vicky Greensill impressed with key intercepts, bringing the ball out of Concord’s defensive end along with centre Alice Winch whose court craft and tenacity outwitted the Leeds centre court.

Clear communication from keeper Lucy Crowley and Hannah Bolderson’s relentless defensive pressure began to force errors from the Leeds attackers, and the pair combined with Greensill to capitalise on any missed shots or wayward passes.

Katie Coates proved a formidable opponent with her accurate circle feeds, decisive movement from centre pass and long balls into shooter Roanne Minshull.  The Leeds defence were quick to react to this and soon made a change to their line up in an attempt to supress Minshull’s goal rush. But, Molly Sandhu’s circle drives and clever play continued to fluster the defensive duo. By half time Concord’s lead had opened up to 11 goals.
Early turnovers by Leeds in the third quarter and accuracy from their shooters saw the goal margin begin to narrow. But Aleksandra Karpinska, entering the game at Goal Keeper, soon responded by shutting down the movement of the shooters and snatched flying intercepts that Winch and Bolderson worked down court for their shooters to convert.

Laura Hughes, proving too quick for her wing defence, linked well with Sandhu in attack who continued to slot long shots in from range, taking full advantage of the space opened up as the Leeds defenders tried to double up on Minshull.

The momentum stayed with Concord into the final quarter as Leeds fell foul of the umpires whistle. With no answer to Minshull’s dominance and clinical shooting, which earnt the captain Player of the Match, the Sheffield team extended their lead by a further 16 goals.

The squad now go forward to the play-offs to compete in the Northern League next season.
