Match Report Concord 3 vs Jammy Dodgers

Only seven Concord3 players were available for the match on 9th March against Jammy Dodgers, who are the only team to have beaten them so far this season. However, heavy traffic caused by the Stereophonics concert at the Arena meant that Concord had to start with only five players, but what a five they were!

The team, consisting of Jenny as GK, Abbie at GD, Lucy Arundale at C, Anna Wright at GA, and Harriet at GS, started the match with confidence against a bigger (numerically and physically) team, but accurate passing and excellent play in both circles meant Jammy Dodgers held only a slender lead of 3-5 at quarter time.

The second quarter saw Concord match Jammy Dodgers goal for goal but Tiffany’s arrival just prior to half time made the difference and when the whistle went the score was 10-10. A shuffle round at half time, moving Abbie to GS and Tiffany to GD saw Concord take the lead and from then on there was no stopping them. Superior court play showing considerable skill and athleticism (especially from the shooters Abbie and Anna) and a determination to win saw them easily outplay the opposition and go on to win 22-18, still with only six players!

Jammy Dodgers are no pushover, a big, powerful and physical team but strong and positive umpiring made the match one to be remembered for all the right reasons.
